What is roof rack?

A roof rack consists of hardware permanently installed on the roof of a car and intended for fastening hard or soft car top carriers.

Roof racks consist of either side rails (running front-to-back along the sides of the car), cross bars (running side-to-side across the width of the car), or both.

Some roof racks include a metal basket, while others are specialized for fastening bicycles, kayaks, etc.
